Consultation paper on OTT framework to come next month
According to a senior official on Wednesday, the telecom regulator Trai will publish a public consultation document in December to explore rules for internet-based calling, messaging, and entertainment apps.
To establish a legal framework for over-the-top (OTT) apps that offer calling and messaging services, the Department of Telecommunications has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) for recommendations.
A presentation by Trai officials is scheduled for November 25. Following that, themes for discussion will be outlined, and a consultation paper will be published for the topic the following month, a senior Trai official informed PTI.
The government has proposed classifying OTT applications that offer calling and messaging service as telecom services companies under the new telecommunications bill.
The telecom bill suggests that OTT players follow the “Know Your Customer” regulations and enable authorised interceptions.
