The quake struck Kandrian, Papua New Guinea, on Saturday at 21:24:48 (UTC 05:30), at a depth of 38.2 kilometers, according to the USGS.
Specifically, the earthquake’s epicenter was at 6.111°S and 149.793°E.
The United States Geological Survey reported that a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the isolated New Britain region of Papua New Guinea on Sunday, although no tsunami warning was issued.
The USGS reported that the earthquake occurred on Sunday morning in the sparsely populated West New Britain archipelago region at a depth of 38 kilometers (23 miles).
An employee at a Walindi Plantation Resort near the town of Kimbe, which is about 80 kilometers from the epicenter, reported feeling the shaking, although they thought it wasn’t too strong.
No one really responded; there was some shaking, but no damage, said resort employee Vanessa Hughes to AFP.
