The film’s song ‘Nattu Nattu’ recently won the Critics Choice Award as well as the Golden Globe Award, and it is now nominated for an Academy Award.
‘Naatu Naatu,’ the irrepressible, fun number from SS Rajamouli’s film ‘RRR,’ and documentary short ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won one Academy Award each on Monday (March 13), showcasing cinema beyond Bollywood and the growing might of the Indian non-feature segment. This is the first time that two Indian-made films have won the world’s most prestigious award.
The 95th Academy Awards will be remembered for recognising Asian talent, with ‘Everything Everywhere at Once’ winning seven awards, including Best Film, Best Director for Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, Best Actress for Malaysia’s Michelle Yeoh, and Best Supporting Actor for Vietnamese American Ke Huy Quan.
