Sidhu Moose Wala, a well-known Indian rapper who later became a politician, was shot by unidentified gunmen while driving near his home in the Mansa region of India’s Punjab state on Sunday.
According to Punjab police commissioner Viresh Kumar Bhawra, the 28-year-old singer, whose true name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was shot and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
About 30 empty casings belonging to at least three different weapons, including a 9mm handgun, were discovered at the crime scene, according to Bhawra.
The attack was linked to gang rivalry, with a gang member from Canada apparently taking responsibility for Moose Wala’s killing, according to Punjab police. Political parties, on the other hand, have criticised Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allowing the murders to occur.
“Sidhu Moose Wala was killed in a state-sponsored assassination. This is all the fault of the AAP government “In a statement, India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party claimed.
Moose Wala’s killers would not be spared, according to Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann of the AAP. “The terrible murder of Sidhu Moose Wala has shocked and grieved me. There will be no exceptions. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his family and followers all across the world. I implore everyone to maintain their composure “He sent out a tweet.
Moose Wala left his home around 4.30 p.m. in a car with two other people, according to Bhawra. Two automobiles approached the vehicle from the front and started fire, he added, about an hour later.
According to the Press Trust of India, the incident comes as Punjab’s state administration announced the scaling back and withdrawal of security cover formerly offered to 424 officials, including 122 legislators, including Moose Wala. Critics claimed that the measure would expose persons to attack.
Moose Wala normally had four commandos, but two had been sent to cover the anniversary of a Sikh atrocity, according to Bhawra. Moose Wala still had two armed security guards at his disposal, but he chose not to travel with police protection on Sunday, according to Bhawra. “He didn’t take commando (guards) with them when they left his house and told them they didn’t have to come,” Bhawra added.
According to Bhawra, the singer also had access to a bulletproof automobile that he did not utilize.
After releasing his first song in 2017, Moose Wala became one of the most well-known musicians of his generation.
On Instagram, he had 8 million followers, and his music videos got millions of views on YouTube. Drake, a fellow rapper, reacted to the news of his death by posting an Instagram photo of him. “Moose, rest in peace,”
